The political situation in Honduras continues to be a great concern. Our
primary concern is for the people of Honduras who are suffering due to the
unrest.

It looked like things were headed for the "final offensive" on Monday. This is
what "Mel" Zelaya (the ousted President) called for, but it did not happen. The
present government restricted several constitutional rights in an effort to
counter Zelaya's call for insurrection. They later lifted those restrictions,
probably in response to international outrage.

From what I can tell things are very quiet in Tegucigalpa today. There are
diplomatic meetings being held by the Organization of American States and the
United Nations. Everyone is trying to figure out a peaceful solution. The
Honduran presidential election is November 29th.

The present situation also gives us a lot of concern about our ministry's first
scheduled trip to Honduras. We have 5 people scheduled to leave
mid-October for a week-long trip. They plan to install water treatment
systems, and, depending upon funds, build some houses. We are praying that
something peaceful will happen in the next few days to bring an end to
unsettledness. Please join us in that prayer.

We are also waiting on an import permit that will allow us to ship a load of corn
from BHRP. In addition to the corn we will ship also shoes, shirts, hats, and
plumbing supplies. These will be used and/or distributed on future trips. If
everything goes as we hope, then we will make another trip some time early
in the new year.

Everything is still relatively quiet in Honduras. There are few things being
discussed diplomatically but nothing has changed yet. Hopefully
something will happen soon.

Honduras insisted that it was safe enough to host a World Cup soccer
match the 2nd week of October. I'm not what that means for our trip. Be
fervent in prayer for Steve, Brandon, Jon, Dan, and Terry. They will have
to make a big decision before too long.

Hoping for a miracle (literally)
The Senator's trip is off
Oh, it's back on again
Evidently the restrictions are still on
[From 10.07.09]

I think there is a lot happening today on the diplomatic side of
things, so hopefully we'll see some good news come out of
Honduras this evening or tomorrow.

Our team is scheduled to leave in 10 days and is looking for some
divine direction about what to do. Will you please pray for them?
From 10.10.09

Looks like our team is going to head out next Sunday morning early.
They've prayed and talked and prayed. They plan to be there from
Sunday through Saturday. They will install 2 water treatment systems and
plan to build 3 houses (for they could still use some funds). I'll post more
this week about their trip.

We are having a mini fund-raiser Wednesday evening during our
Wednesday Evening Meal. Each week is a fund-raiser in one sense, but
this week we are emphasizing trying to get more people present. I am
smoking pork, hoping that will draw some in!
[From 10.20.09] We have our first team on the ground in Honduras! Steve and
Brandon Gilstrap, Jon Goller, Dan Kerr, and Terry Taflinger are there installing 2
water treatment systems at childrens homes, and they plan to build some houses
as well. They will return later this week. Here is a brief report from Steve.

"Welcome to Honduras." That has been a popular saying the last 2 days. I'm now
sitting in the dark outside the chapel to get out of the rain.. We have been back
to Mission House about 30 minutes. We got back last night about 9:30. So we have
been having some long days and tomorrow is going to be the longest yet. The
electrical work took longer today than expected and then we stayed and ate with
5 other Americans who are working with Marc Tindall this week. Everyone is fine
but no time to post because of the long days. The wireless we used this summer
has been moved back up to the office here so that is why I sitting in the dark. We
have driven on every road within a 50 mile radius of where we are staying trying
to get to everywhere we have to go. We saw troups guarding the embassy where
Mel is and there are roadblocks setup several places but we haven't been stopped
at them. We have been in some awful traffic though and coming back after dark
is a real treat (especially tonight with the rain). Better go I'm getting cold and it
is past my bedtime again.

One of the childrens home where they are installing a water treatment system is
Casa de Esperanza.

The political situation remains (mostly it seems) quietly unsettled.

We are bagging corn in Bryantsville this evening. The load we bag, along with
toys, shirts, and shoes, will be shipped to Mark Connell.
[From 10.24.09] Due to computer problems I could not update for the last few
days. To get a good report, along with photos, you can create an account with
Facebook (if don't already have one) and become friends with Steve Gilstrap.
We are shipping a load of corn, toys, shoes, shirts, and other supplies on
Tuesday morning from Bryantsville. We'll probably need more volunteers to
help load, if you are available.
[from 10.25.09] Our team arrived back home safely and did a wonderful job
this morning of reporting their experiences. Soon will have a more extensive
report on this site. Check back soon.
[from 10.28.09] We shipped our first load of corn yesterday! We had a
tremendous turn out of workers willing to help. Everything went very well.
You can see some photos by clicking here. Now our attention towards
evaluating our recent trip and planning the next one. Keep praying.
[From 11.10.09] Our next trip is scheduled for January 24-30, 2010. We'll
share more details as we get them. Five will be going, including Steve
Gilstrap and Allen Burris. The plan is to build 5 houses and a do a few
other projects.
[From 12.15.09] Our five person team is all booked and ready to go in
January! We could still use some funds for houses; keep praying that
these funds will come in.

The container of corn that we shipped in late October has arrived in
Tegucigalpa and is now safely in the warehouse waiting on
distribution. You can see photos by click here.
