Our first trip was with Torch Missions. Our group of 16 joined other
groups from various parts of the U.S. We all worked together under the
direction of Terry Reeves. We arrived on June 26, and June 28 the
military arrested the President of Honduras and kicked him out of the
country. Things got very tense.

Terry decided that we should all leave as soon as possible to avoid any
danger. Most of the groups were able to leave on Tuesday, but we could
not get out until Friday. Another group, from Benton, KY, also stayed
until Friday, along with a few individuals. It acutally turned out quite well.
We continued to work, and we developed a nice bond with the others
who remained. [To read the local news of our trip click here.]

Our team was responsible for bringing the funds to build 6 houses. We
were able to build these, even with a smaller group. These houses were
dedicated to: Jordan & Erica Slaughter, Jacob Slaughter, Nathan, Cheryl,
Cadence, and Kynlie Slaughter, Charles, Martha, Isaac, and Caleb
Slaughter, The Mitchell Church of Christ, and Wayne & Neva Gaither.

In addition to building houses we passed out a lot of food that had been
purchased in the marketplace. The food was distributed in the same
places where the houses were built: the La Tigra rainforest. It was a
beautiful place and a wonderful experience.

Team members: Steve Gilstrap,
Brandon Gilstrap, Jon Goller,
Dan Kerr, and Terry Taflinger.
This group was our first small
team effort. They installed two
water treatment systems in
orphanages and built three
houses. Two of the houses were
built in honor of Harold and Mary
Cross and Luther and Mary
Gilstrap. They worked with Mark
Connell.

Warren Crawford was supposed
to accompany us on this trip but
was turned away at the airport. His
passport was valid but not valid
enough for the Hondurans. They
require that it not expire within the
next 6 months. Warren's had 3
months left. With great
disappointment we left Warren
behind. We had no other choice.

The trip went very well. We worked
with Mark Connell. He did a
wonderful job of taking care of us
and making sure everything was
good. He, along with several
young men, joined us each day to
build houses. For a daily account
of the trip you can go to this blog.
You may have to scroll down to
"older posts" to find the dates of
our trip (Jan. 24-30, 2010).

We built and dedicated 5 houses,
visited 3 children's home,
participated in feeding people who
live at the dump, inventoried and
organized the warehouse for our
summer trip, and did a few other
things.

The Lord blessed us richly.
